NUDISM IN BULGARIA
From “Hosanna!” to “Crucify!” Most of the time nudism (or naturism) provokes ambiguous reactions. Some people are adepts of natural life and consider nakedness natural; other people of more puritan upbringing prefer the suitable comfort of the clothes. Nudism is communicating with nature and people in their natural state. Nudists are people who expose their body freely without being ashamed of being naked in front of other people. Nudism is liked by many different people regardless of their cultural, ethnic, religious or sexual orientation. Nudism fans say that the nudist is not an exhibitionist. Nudism is a culture which takes time to be habituated to. Nudists have their informal clubs with traditions where you can feel really happy among other nudists while communicating with nature and feeling the air, the sun, and the water with your naked body.
There is no specific legislation about nudism in Bulgaria. Anyway, the law says that everything not explicitly forbidden is allowed. So, nudism falls within this category. Everybody in the country knows that there are some quiet, lonely and non-guarded beaches along the Black Sea coast where you can go and mingle with other nudism followers. Such places are usually kept in secret from the rest of the holiday-makers. Small pieces of paradise can still be found along the coast.
A gorgeous nudist beach is located between the village of Kranevo and Albena Resort to the north of Varna. Several places for nudists still exist to the south of Burgas and the best of them according to the experts is the Ropotamo River Mouth. There the beach is wide - almost 1000 metres of fine sand with shallow and warm sea and beautiful view. And, oh!, the biggest nudist beach on the Balkans is also near Burgas, this time about 20 km to the north. From Pomorie to the village of Aheloy on the Lake of Pomorie – you may swim in the sea, or in the lake, or, if feel like it, you may spread some curative mud on your body.
Other well known nudist beaches are Irakli near Obzor, Kara Dere near Byala, Kavatzi camping and Fig camping near Sozopol, near Kiten, the beaches in Varna-Golden Sands resort after the marina where a remote part of the beach is visited by people of homosexual orientation and where the world-famous gay nude beach is located. Loved by nudists are camping Nestinarka in Burgas area and Pasha Dere near Galata in Varna, Golden Fish, Burgas and the nudist beach of Sunny Beach. Nudism is not allowed on the territory of the normal municipal beaches.
Of course, there are places at a small distance from the main beaches, specifically selected for the purpose, where you can also practice nudism. But you have to be more careful as the risk of several children around staring at you is a nightmare come true.
