Sopot

SopotThe city of Sopot is located in the central part of Bulgaria in the foot of Stara Planina Mountain.

It is 5 km from the town of Gabrovo, 136 km from Sofia and 63 km from the town of Plovdiv. The village was founded more than three thousand years ago.

Remnants from the iron age as well as coins and tools from the Sevt II and Sevt III have been discovered all around the place. During the Middle Ages the city existed under the name Kopsis. Read more

Kalofer

KaloferKalofer is situated in the foot of Kalofer mountain which is part of the Stara Planina mountains, in southern Bulgaria.

It is located 18 km from the city of Karlovo and 65 km from the town of Plovdiv.

According to the legend the city was founded by Kalofer voivode [leader of a small rebel detachment].

During the 18th century the village turns into a craftsmen’s centre. The cloaks and woolen braids manufactured here were popular all around.

During the Ottoman domination the city has been burnt down twice. During the War for liberation lots of houses and craftsman shops have been destroyed.

Nowadays the city is small, attractive and well-arranged. This is the starting point for the Central Balkan National Park, Botev peak and the highest Bulgarian waterfall called Raiskoto praskalo (its name means Paradise Splash). Read more
