Byalgrad medieval fortressThe Byalgrad fortress is one of the best preserved fortresses in Bulgaria. It is situated in the Eastern part of the Rhodopes , near the village of Gugutka.

The walls are 8 meters high and 2 meters thick and are about 550 meters long.

The fortress is probably built in 12th century. In the eastern part of the fortress are remains of a church. The best preserved part of the Byalgrad fortress is the inner tower – the “donzhon” as its walls are 9 meters high. Read more
