Gotze Delchev has a very rich historic past. According to some archaeological data and information there was a settlement at this place, founded by Alexander the Great and named after him as Alexandropolis.
Later, one of the Roman emperors changed its name to Nicopolis ad Nestrum.
During the time of the Turkish rule it was a very small settlement and was not mentioned in the historic research books. At the end of the 19th century Gotze Delchev was known as Nevrokop and kept its name until 1951, when the new communist government changed it to Gotze Delchev.
