The Chiprovtsi Monastery has been burned out many times. Its foundation dates as far back as the 10th century.
At the times of the Ottoman rule the monastery was a key point for the Chiprovsko vazstanie (Chiprovsko rebellion) and the rebellion of the Konstantin and Fruzhin.
A landmark is the tower in the yard, which is now a belfry. The mortal remains of the rebels are laid in the foot-stall.
Nowadays the Chiprovtsi Monastery is a cultural monument.
