Kotel is situated in the eastern part of the Balkan Mountain 328 km east of Sofia. It is a town with beautiful architectural examples from the Late Revival – more than 110 houses and one of the most important centers of the weaving art.
It has majestic nature and fresh pure air. There are a Folk Music School and 4 museums in the town.
Kotel is famous with its typical for the region traditional Bulgarian carpets.

1. Galatan school – there is a brilliant exposition of carpet weaving masterpieces
2. Zheravna – 14 km south of Kotel, a national architectural reserve with unspoiled beauty and intimacy. Every house is a unique monument of culture built by an unknown master. Some of the houses are 300 years old. Very good holiday facilities
3. Medven – 12 km away, picturesque village with authentic architecture
4. Gradets – 17 km south-east, pretty small village with typical wooden houses most of which have been turned into holiday villas.
