The town of Kresna is located in the Kresna Gorge on the main road Sofia – Kulata.
The Kresna Gorge is a picturesque and narrow valley made by the river Struma, which goes through rocky and steep banks.
Kresna is defined as one of the most important areas for protection of the biodiversity in Bulgaria – more than 450 plant species, many species of butterflies and moths, reptiles and amphibians. Very interesting are the Kresnenski mould pyramids that are similar to those in Melnik.
There are some small hotels in Kresna.
